Hoover Dam is a concrete arch-gravity dam in the Black Canyon of the Colorado River on the border between the U.S. states of Nevada and Arizona. Its construction was the result of a massive effort involving thousands of workers, working 24 hours a day, and cost over one hundred lives. Originally known as Boulder Dam from 1933, it was officially renamed Hoover Dam, for President Herbert Hoover, by a joint resolution of Congress in 1947. Just 15 minutes South of Boulder City, take in the spectacular views of more than 750 miles of shoreline at Lake Mead. With fishing, boating, hiking, Lake Mead National Recreation Area includes mountains, lakes, canyons and valleys to explore with trails, scenic drives and campsites waiting to be uncovered. This recreational paradise is the perfect spot for water sport enthusiasts with activities ranging from relaxing on a houseboat to jumping through waves on a wakeboard.
