Whiskey Pete’s is Closed… Now What? Top 10 Alternate Adventures

Whiskey Pete’s has been a staple attraction in the Jean/Primm/Goodsprings area. Named after Pete MacIntyre, the gas station owner turned bootlegger, it was the first casino to exist at what is now known as Stateline. Now the property is closing for an indefinite amount of time as its parent company, Primm Valley Resorts, focuses on featuring “new and ongoing investments at Primm Resorts and Buffalo Bills.” But never fear, there’s plenty more adventures to be had in the area. Here’s the top 10.

Kick up some dust with Vegas Off-Road Tours

Explore the Mojave Desert up close and personal in a Polaris RZR during Vegas Off-Road adventures guided tour, or take your own self-guided adventure.

Explore art in the desert

Seven Magic Mountains is a popular attraction for locals and tourists alike. The art installation features seven towers standing more than 30 feet high of beautifully colored stacked boulders. It’s a creative expression of human presence in the desert. But as you come out to enjoy this work of art and take all your instagram-worthy pictures, remember to leave no trace behind!

View the Bonnie & Clyde getaway car

Buffalo Bill’s casino floor is home to the getaway car of perhaps the world’s most famous outlaw duo. Their infamous stolen Ford can be found on the casino floor, complete with mannequins of Bonnie & Clyde standing guard. While there you can also view memorabilia or try your luck on several Bonnie & Clyde-themed slot machines.

Go sailing… on land

Ivanpah Dry Lake is known as one of the top wind sailing spots world-wide. The International championship land sailing racing, and land sailing high speed records by a wind powered vehicle have both been set on Ivanpah Dry Lake. Talk about adventures to write home about! Kite Buggy enthusiasts like the person pictured below from the Ivanpah Buggy Expo should check it out April 14-18, 2025.

Belly up to the bar and have a pint at Pioneer Saloon

Being Southern Nevada’s oldest bar isn’t this watering hole’s only claim to fame. It is the place where Clark Gable sat and awaited news of Carol Lombard’s Plane crash in nearby Mt. Potosi. Don’t miss the small ‘museum’ collection in their honor. For our video game loving traveller, the bar was featured on the popular video game Fallout: New Vegas.

Take a stroll through history on the Goodsprings Walking Tour

Goodsprings was once a vibrant area during the mining boom in the early 1900’s, but now sits as a ghost town with a very small population remaining. The Goodsprings Historical Society has put together a walking tour of nearly two dozen historic buildings. Of course Pioneer Saloon is on the list, so you can stop to whet your whistle during the tour.

Take a hike on the Goodsprings RR Ridge Loop

This moderately challenging 2.3 mile hike follows the railroad trail that used to carry ore from Goodsprings to Jean during the mining boom. It has stunning views of the surrounding desert, Mt. Potosi, and the town of Goodsprings.
