Camel Safari Las Vegas

📍Approximate Distance From The Strip: 1 Hr. 16 Mins. 71.1 Mi.

Camels in the Mojave Desert? You bet! Get up close and personal with this hardy humped-back animal. Just travel about an hour outside of The Strip to Camel Safari Las Vegas, an accredited zoo where you can look at, and ride, one of their more than 40+ camels. Even better! The zoo is also home to several other exotic animals including a Toe-Toed Sloth, an African Crested Porcupine, two adorable Sand Cats, two very rare New Guinea Singing Dogs, six Alpacas, and a Llama!

Guided safari tours on humpback, Safari Tram, or ATV’s are available, including a VIP Sunset Safari with beautiful sights beyond compare.

Henderson Bird Viewing Preserve

📍Approximate Distance From The Strip: 25 Mins. 19.9 Mi.

You don’t have to be an avian aficionado to enjoy the beauty this site has to offer, though it IS consistently rated as the “Best Place to Birdwatch.” That’s because the preserve features a surprisingly lush 80-acre oasis in the middle of the desert that is home to thousands of species of migratory birds and native birds. People flock to this site to view and photograph these fine feathered friends among the nine ponds that make up the preserve.

Entry to Henderson Bird Viewing Preserve is free and tours start at just $2, making it an affordable, family-friendly option. And because it is “home” to a lot of migratory birds, you’re sure to see different varieties as the seasons change – making a place you’ll want to come back to again and again. Learn more.

The Lion Habitat Ranch

📍Approximate Distance From The Strip: 17 Mins. 12.9 Mi.

Do you remember when the MGM Grand used to have real, live lions in an enclosed habitat on the casino floor? Well, it did. But that exhibit sadly closed in 2012. Wondering where the powerful, magnificent beasts went?

Located not too far from the Las Vegas Strip is the Lion Habitat Ranch, where fierce felines from the exhibit have lived when not at the MGM Grand. They now spend their golden retirement years permanently on the ranch. Visitors can see, and even feed, the lions as well as the habitat’s giraffe – Ozzie. Premium experiences include a Giraffe Painting Experience where Ozzie paints a canvas while you reward them with treats, and a Feast With the Beasts where you can eat a meal inside a glass enclosure surrounded by lions.

Moapa Valley National Wildlife Refuge

📍Approximate Distance From The Strip: 1Hr. 6 Min. 62 Mi.

This 116-acre area is home to three of Nevada’s five major hot springs, which provide a specialized habitat for the endangered Moapa Dace fish. Visitors can enjoy a stream-side stroll where you can gaze upon species that you won’t be able to find anywhere else in the world! Moapa Dace, White River Springfish, Moapa Pebblesnail, and Moapa Riffle Beetles are all endemic to Moapa Valley.

The refuge’s interpretive trail features a viewing area where you can see below the waters of the pond/stream and get an up-close look at these magnificent creatures. Stroll along the trail and you will also see many more species of wildlife – the refuge is home to more than 320 species including Desert Bighorn Sheep, Hummingbirds, Dragonflies, Bats, Lizards, Hawks, and more. Informational displays line the trails to teach you more about the area and the species that inhabit it.
