Downtown Las Vegas

Downtown Las Vegas

Located midway between Los Angeles and Salt Lake City, Las Vegas was founded in 1905 on 110 acres of land just off the Union Pacific railroad tracks. The following year, the first hotel — the Hotel Nevada which became the Golden Gate Hotel & Casino on Fremont Street — opened in Downtown Las Vegas. Las Vegas was officially incorporated as a city in 1911.

Commonly abbreviated as DTLV, Downtown Las Vegas is the city’s central business hub and historical center. It also predates The Strip as the original gaming district in Vegas. It’s currently home to the Fremont Street Experience, as well as numerous hotels, high rises, historic buildings, new residential developments, and vibrant arts and cultural scene.

The historic heart of Las Vegas, bustling Downtown is home to revered casinos like the Plaza, Golden Nugget and 4 Queens. Museums to boast like interactive exhibits on organized crime at the Mob Museum. A vibrant LED canopy covers the Fremont Street Experience, a 24-hour mall with shops, light shows and the SlotZilla zip line. Drinking and dining options range from casual burger and pizza places to sleek steakhouses and glitzy cocktail bars.

Downtown Dining

Whether you are looking for traditional or fusion fare, Downtown Las Vegas has the likes and licks you are looking for.  Slightly off the Strip this up and coming art and food district has much to offer anyone's pallet.  Easy on the wallets, but not on the eyes.  You will be dazzled by the old town neon flare, eateries and local bar scene. Start your  sunrise with Donut Bar and their modern take on coffee and  oversized donuts in inventive flavors  to a sunset dinner at Mayor Goodman's Oscar's Steakhouse at the Plaza Hotel or have an expert guide you through this city’s most dynamic food scene on a Lip Smacking Foodie Tour.  An assortment of both casual and formal dining awaits you in Downtown Las Vegas.  With approximately 150 restaurants, diners, and coffee shops, dining in Downtown Las Vegas offers some of the best food in the area.

Downtown Arts District

Known as the 18b, the Las Vegas Arts District contains a mix of independent businesses including vintage clothing boutiques, antique stores, art galleries, hair salons, restaurants, The 18b is located halfway between the Fremont East Entertainment district and the Stratosphere Resort, clustered around Main and Charleston, bounded loosely by Commerce Street to the West, Hoover Avenue to the North, Fourth Street to the East and Wyoming Avenue at the south. It is an easy bike ride, walk or bus ride from Fremont Street. The name, "18b," represents the original Arts District area, which consisted of 18 blocks. Today, the Arts District area has grown beyond those original 18 blocks and is a classic urban mix of residential, commercial and cultural uses that will continue to grow as the hub of the arts scene in Las Vegas.

The "First Friday" Art Walk is a monthly arts and cultural event drawing up to 30,000 visitors into the neighborhood on the first Friday evening of each month. This event encourages people to flock downtown to browse, buy, eat, drink and mingle. The event is a festival environment with food and beverage vendors, music, visual performances and artists/artisans/craftspeople displaying their works.
